Well, disregard the previous note from the previous response where I ask you what’s going on, why do you feel challenged as a writer.
You know I have a day job and I won’t allow myself to lose it, at least not now. So I’m not entirely in your shoes.
Also my opinion is biased, because I appreciate your presence and as your career takes off you will not be found in spaces like this as often any more.
As I like to interact with you, this is social media, Gurpreet.
Sometimes we write something memorable. Sometimes we talk from the heart. But how many of us are going to pay a mortgage thanks to Medium?
Don’t get me wrong. I love this space. I think I have friends here.
But to write a novel you need time.
And space.
And to be on your own to be inside that space I think it looks and feels like The LOOK. That place where we go and gather stories. Or where we go to give them shape.
Talking about Laurie, remember when she made that story in June/July about the Tour de France and La Vuelta a España, how she compared going in to write the book with climbing mountains on the bicycle?
I never wrote a book, but I guess it is like that.
You go in and you do your miles. And you get your blinders and you write. And you activate The LOOK and you go inside your book.
And then you come out and you tell us your stories. And you hold us in your imagination. And we hold you in our inspiration.
And we’ll miss you. And we’ll be here as a beacon in case you get lost inside The LOOk.
Believe in yourself, since I believe in you.
(I don’t tell this story often, but when I was in California, I befriended this guy. He said he wanted to be an actor, to kiss girls in soap operas, it’s what he said! One day he recited a poem from Lorca to me. It was enthralling!)
(He went back to his native Colombia- he didn’t have papers to stay in the US- I sent him money a few times, he went to college for acting, and now he is an actor. He was touring Europe with a production in the summer. He had a small role in a movie with Shakira, he was in a soap opera that was on Netflix!!!)
Who can tell the future?
Who can chart the stars?
Even if you disappear tomorrow
You’ll be forever in my heart
Go.
Write.
P.
