Once you lowered the nose, increase power and level the wings, you basically let the plane flight. Provided you have enough altitude.
It’s counter intuitive if you are falling (no lift on the wings) you want to go up, but you actually need to point the nose down to increase your speed and generate lift. You trade altitude for speed. But at times people get in trouble for not ceding control. There’s a point in which the pilot needs to let the airplane fly and not fight the airplane.
