Once when I was living in LA I was walking down the street after grocery shopping carrying my bags (I didn’t have a car) when a car stopped and offered me a ride. The day before a friend of mine had spotted me and gave me a ride to my place about a mile away. Without thinking or looking I jumped into the car, now the next day, assuming it was my friend. It wasn’t.

The man who drove the car touched my knee. I gave him directions to another address and waited for him to leave. It was a close call.

This is to say, we all made decisions we may later regret based on assumptions. I was hoping for a ride, you simply for lunch.

But it was not our fault. You were hoping to have lunch and maybe feel that you belonged to this church group. I was hoping not to have to walk a mile. Simple as that.

I don’t know what it is, Curio. I don’t know why sometimes we feel all we can do is to hurt one another. I don’t know why the path to not being alone have to be the path of pain.

I hope we get some healing.
