maybe here lies at least part of the problem. We can all have our own vision of truth, our own perspective. But the problem is that reality is still not "exactly however we wanted."

Yes, we all have our own perspective. But our perspective (limited or not) does not change reality.

Maybe as a society we need to learn that the fact we are perceiving only a part of reality doesn't mean that reality doesn't expand beyond our vision. And to realize that we need to appreciate the vision that others bring to the table.

I remember a speaker I once heard who talked about a group of people being blindfolded and touching an elephant. Some touch their belly, others their trunk, others their legs and so on and each came with their own impression of what was they were touching. But ultimately, they were still touching an elephant.
