It was another great Polish man who introduced me to the idea of love. Krzysztof Kieślowski

In his film Blue in the ending Greek chorus that some good soul had the charity to translate for viewers (the film was in French), it was sang:

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing”.

Years went by before I found out this was a verse written by Paul the Apostle.

In any case, this resonates with what you are saying, in which if there is no meaning in one’s actions, there is no love.
