In my experience alcohol addiction is as bad as opioid use disorder. Probably worse since it is legal. In my practice I have seen many who never got a chance, who got introduced to alcohol at a very young age.
I live in the South West of the United States were Native American communities have been secluded to reservations and it seems that they been given alcohol as payment for their lands.
Sometimes it seems as if the generational trauma and humiliation, for being reduced to third class citizens is too much to bear. However I see the abuse of alcohol in many young Caucasian men. Men who have seem to have been promised a future they would never attain. The burden of not measuring up.
Many, many young people. I always tell my patients: you don’t want to be alive when your liver is dead.
