I wrote the Spanish version first. I am not a firm believer in translating poetry but I did anyway. It seems to me when a poem comes you really don’t “think” about the poem, which makes it deeper in my opinion, but translation is really not a creative process and when I do it I’m preoccupied with keeping the integrity of the piece alive, but in doing so I think you lose its spirit…?
The other thing I was wondering was if since Spanish is my first language, if that is the reason why I was able to better play with the words.
Question is then, have you perceived that sensuality and cadence you were talking about in at least some of the English pieces I wrote?
