I made the same mistake!

When I was a teenager I had a language period when I decided to learn a bunch of different languages and Italian was one of them. I was hoping it would be easy to learn but it turned to be a complete nightmare and I soon left the class.

But the sound of Spanish in Argentina is very similar to Italian. It is the cadence of the language that had been incorporated after a big wave of Italian immigrants after WWI arrived to the country.

Once sort of lost at a train station I heard this two women talking and I thought they were from my country and I approached them to ask for directions in Spanish but they ended up being Italians, not Argentinians. Very strange situation, because a lot of the architecture from Buenos Aires has Italian/European influence and for a moment I had a weird sense of displacement/feeling like I was in Argentina instead of Italy. I was sort of happy when they were not able to understand me, at least I was not crazy!
