I don’t watch horror films. I did watch Get Out and I agree with what you say about the character realizing he is not seen as fully human, but as a body to be taken. An object of consumption.
Maybe kind of like the original Alien arouse in men the fear of being raped. And the child, now a monster, to chase them forever.
The way you talk about the trauma horror is the way I felt when reading Octavia E Butler’s Parable series. It was hard to read. It was hard to take in. I don’t know, with her we see the resilience of her characters, but we also see how hard it is to simply persevere.
I heard there were some people in Hollywood looking in adapting some of her work. I hope they don’t center only on trauma horror.
